CHEYENNE – There’s much to learn yet about chronic wasting disease, but this is known: a 16-page color booklet with the most up-to-date information about the disease in Wyoming is available to interested individuals.
The publication was produced by the magazine and veterinary staffs of the Game and Fish Department and was featured in the October issue of Wyoming Wildlife magazine. The G&F produced a similar booklet in 1998, which turned out to be one of the most sought after publications the G&F ever produced.
“A lot of new information has surfaced in five years,” said Chris Madson, Wyoming Wildlife editor. “The disease has been discovered in new places, which means states as far east as Wisconsin and Illinois are faced with managing it in their white-tailed deer. The scientists have developed new tests, and the managers continue to test ways to respond to CWD in the wild. We thought it was time for the magazine to revisit the science and management this challenge has generated."
The new booklet – “Chronic Wasting Disease: Moving On” – features chapters on common questions, impact on deer herds, management, research, surveillance and regulations, and human risk. The publication is available from G&F offices and by calling (800) 842-1934 or (307) 777-4600 out of state. |
